Calling all disabled artists and artisans in South Gloucestershire!

SGDEN is organising an exhibition and sale of work to celebrate the work of disabled artists and artisans on the weekend 25 – 27 September 2015.

We are asking disabled people who would like to participate in the

“Ability not Disability” Exhibition

to contact us at densouthglos@gmail.com to book their places.

SGDEN believes that the work of disabled artists and artisans is often undervalued and underappreciated. We also know that some disabled artists struggle to get the chance to sell their work for a fair price. The aim of this exhibition is to champion their work at a single event and give as many as possible the chance to show their work to a wide audience. We will be promoting this exhibition widely and are organising a private view for invited guests to open the exhibition on Friday evening.

We are keen to exhibit a wide range of art forms as well as painting and drawing. Any artist who identifies themselves as disabled and has a link to South Gloucestershire can submit work for exhibition, priority will be given to those who live in the district.

Ability not Disability was the brainchild of the former Chair of SGDEN, Sue Liebow who died in January this year.   Funds generated during the exhibition will be used to establish a bursary fund for disabled artists in her name.

For more information about how to submit items for inclusion in the exhibition see the next page.

Artists Brief

Artists and artisans working in any art form are welcome to submit items for exhibition (provided we can fit it into the space available).

Artists must identify themselves as a disabled person and have a link to South Gloucestershire (generally living, working or studying in the district, but this can also include membership of an art or disability group which meets in the area). If we are over-subscribed priority will be given to South Gloucestershire residents.

Artists and artisans whose items are for sale must indicate the price they require. SG DEN will require a commission of 15% on all items sold. Funds raised will be used to establish the Sue Liebow Fund which will offer financial support for disabled artists who need training to help them make an income through their art.

Artists who do not wish to sell their art are welcome to exhibit.
