This morning we received notification from DWP that the programme to transfer from Disabled Living Allowance (DLA) to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) has now reached South Gloucestershire.

From 1st September existing DLA claimants in this area will be selected at random and invited to apply for PIP.

As the email below says there is no need to do anything until DLA claimants are contacted by DWP, which is likely to happen at any time over the next couple of years.

However when the letter comes it is vital that they act promptly and apply for PIP. NO ONE will be automatically transferred to PIP, everyone will need to make an application. If an existing DLA claimant does not apply for PIP their benefit will STOP.  They will then need to apply as a new application and will get no money until a decision is made on their application.  This had often been taking more than 6 months.

Even if someone doubts that they meet the criteria for PIP it is still worthwhile applying as they will continue to receive DLA until a decision is made on their application for PIP.

Please let us know what you think about the process of application if you are affected by this change.
